Andrew R. Small

Andrew Small has been practicing criminal law since 2001. He began his career as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Judge Robert A. Blaeser, and then moved to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. From 2001 to 2003, Mr. Small worked in the Juvenile Prosecution Division, handling a variety of criminal cases involving juveniles. That experience gave Mr. Small invaluable insight into working with juveniles and within the Juvenile Justice System.

From 2003 to 2005, Mr. Small worked in the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office’s Gang Unit, focusing on gun offenses. From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Small was in the Violent Crimes Division, prosecuting cases ranging from felony-level DUI’s to Homicides. While at the County Attorney’s Office, he tried more than 40 cases—ranging from Juvenile Petty offenses to First Degree Homicides. He is licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota and the United States Federal Courts.

Since joining Colich & Associates, Mr. Small has represented clients charged with assault, burglary, DUI, domestic assault, robbery, sexual misconduct, child endangerment, drugs, theft, and homicide. Mr. Small recently received “not guilty” verdicts on a First Degree Homicide, where his client faced life in prison without the possibility of parole. Mr. Small truly enjoys the practice of law and role of legal counselor, realizing that his clients are coming to him at what it likely the lowest point of life. Using a gentle but straight-forward approach, Mr. Small prides himself in his ability to work with clients and understand where they are coming from.

Mr. Small has been an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas’ School of Law, teaching Trial Advocacy. Mr. Small is also a contributing member to the Minnesota DUI Deskbook, an annual publication dealing with the basics of DUI law.
